Arezzo - Antique Market in Arezzo

2 November 2008 - 2 December 2008

The most important antique market in Tuscany awaits you in Arezzo the first weekend of every month. A great chance to visit this city rich in extraordinary art. Famous names such as Piero della Francesca, Giorgio Vasari, Pietro Aretino, Cimabue and Beato Angelico lived here leaving great artwork to the city.

The tilted surface of Piazza Grande, surrounded by crenellated towers and noble palaces, bordered by the gallery designed by Vasari, is suddenly filled with stalls, antique dealers, collectors and, naturally, tourists. Lively stores and stalls overflowing with objects of every type invade the streets and lanes, alleys and squares of the entire city center, transforming its physical aspect.

More than 500 exhibitors come from every part of Italy offering a wide range of goods with their objects: valuables, antiques, books and prints, furniture, fossils, rugs, crafts, modern antiques, scientific and musical instruments and toys.

Thanks to the success of the antique show, restorer and antique dealer stands have multiplied. Today, forty years after the first show, there are more than 100 antique shops in Arezzo; in 1968 there were no more than fifteen.

How to get there: Arezzo is 80 km (50 miles) from Florence; it can be easily reached by car on the A1 Highway heading towards Rome or using the frequent train service from Florence.
